Online seminar: Green biorefinery - technologies for producing protein from green biomasses

An insight in technologies enabling extraction and use of protein from green leaves from grasses, legumes, beetroots etc.

The overall message at the on-line seminar Green biorefinery – a Green Deal for agriculture – producing sustainable soy protein alternatives and biobased products held 17. November 2020, is that it is possible to extract protein from grass, clover and other green crops.

Green protein will contribute to reduce the comprehensive European import of soy protein, and the perennial, green crops have very positive effects on the environment and climate and are, at the same time, highly productive.

Biorefining will thus contribute to fulfil environmental demands and, at the same time, to maintain a productive agricultural sector, which can meet future demands for genuinely sustainable food supply.

Research in the possibilities for producing protein via biorefining of green crops has been intensified during the last years. Now the first commercial biorefinery plant has been established, and more are to come.

Objectives

The seminar will provide an overview of research and innovation in technologies enabling extraction and refining of protein from green leaves from grasses, legumes, beetroots etc.

Target group

The main target group for the seminar are representatives for SME’s, organizations and larger companies, interested in the use of the technologies or the green biorefinery products.
