Start-up of a green tech business cluster in Foulum

There is a huge potential in developing new green and sustainable solutions where biomass can be used for many new and different purposes. This green transition can furthermore create new jobs. This is why a business cluster called ‘BioCluster Foulum’ has now been launched, which in the longer term has the intention of becoming an international centre for the development of new solutions for the bio-based society.

In central Jutland, Denmark, you will find one of Europe's leading knowledge and innovation environments in the production, separation and conversion of biomass. Here, the Foulum research centre of Aarhus University is home to unique research in the cultivation and refining of green biomass, while the Agro Business Park focuses on the transformation of this knowledge through innovation and knowledge entrepreneurship.

As an initiative towards meeting the growing need for innovative solutions in the green transition, a consortium – consisting of Aarhus University, Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Viborg Municipality, Viborg Trade Council, Central Denmark Region and Agro Business Park – has just launched a two-year project called BioCluster Foulum.

BioCluster Foulum will be based at the Agro Business Park in Foulum, and the new cluster caters to businesses, entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions and public authorities engaged in activities relating to the cultivation, conversion and utilisation of biomass. The project will help ensure that new research and innovation in the bio-based area is used for the start-up of new businesses and for the development of new business areas for existing businesses.

BioCluster Foulum will build on the existing and specialised knowledge and incubation environment in Foulum in order to establish a strong business cluster, which will help to create the optimal environment for business development and growth.
