New report on ancient Danish animal breeds
The most recent surveys of ancient Danish animal breed populations have been published in a report from DCA – Danish Centre for Food and Agriculture.

Efforts in relation to Danish animal genetic resources comprise ancient breeds that are worthy of conservation and include horses, cattle, pigs, sheep and dogs as well as goats, rabbits, poultry, geese, ducks, pigeons and bees. The report “Danske Husdyrgenetiske Ressourcer” (Danish Livestock Genetic Resources; in Danish) briefly accounts for these conservation efforts. It further describes the origins of the livestock breeds, the background for their conservation and accounts for Danish and international conservation efforts in relation to livestock genetic resources.
The report also provides a brief description of the properties and characteristics, such as phenotype, production and reproduction, of these ancient breeds that are part of the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark’s conservation efforts.
The report has been published by DCA – Danish Centre for Food and Agriculture with financial support from the Danish Agricultural Agency.
