Land-CRAFT invites stakeholders to discuss the future of Danish agriculture
What will future agricultural landscapes look like, and what kind of research is needed to support a sustainable transition? These questions will take centre stage when Land-CRAFT hosts its National Science and Vision Day for Stakeholders on 15 September 2026 at Aarhus University.
Agriculture is facing growing demands to deliver food production while simultaneously addressing climate change, environmental protection and biodiversity loss. Meeting these challenges requires new knowledge, innovative tools and close collaboration between researchers and societal stakeholders.
At its upcoming Science Day, Land-CRAFT will present key insights and experiences from the centre's first four years of research while engaging stakeholders in discussions about future research needs and pathways for sustainable agricultural development.
The event aims to bring together researchers, industry representatives, advisory services, educators and policymakers to exchange perspectives on how science can help shape resilient and multifunctional agricultural landscapes in Denmark and beyond.
Bringing research and practice together
The day begins with a stakeholder panel exploring what evidence, knowledge and decision-support tools are needed to support future agricultural transformation.
The panel includes representatives from:
- SEGES Innovation
- Arla Foods
- TRANSFORM DK
- DANVA, the Danish Water and Wastewater Association
- Asmildkloster Agricultural College
The discussion will be moderated by Professor Tommy Dalgaard and visually documented by graphic facilitator Frank Høedt, who will translate key messages and ideas into real-time illustrations.
From landscape measurements to implementation
A central part of the programme will showcase Land-CRAFT's research framework for developing sustainable agricultural landscapes.
Researchers will present how the centre works across a complete knowledge chain:
Measure → Map → Model → Design → Implement
The presentations will highlight research on:
- Landscape experimentation
- Digital landscape analysis
- Landscape modelling frameworks
- Socio-economic assessments and future scenarios
- Stakeholder engagement and dialogue
Researchers will also discuss how future agricultural landscapes can support food production, climate mitigation, environmental quality and biodiversity while ensuring viable farming systems.
Looking ahead: visions for the next 30 years
The second part of the event focuses on future perspectives.
Researchers, stakeholders and audience members will be invited to reflect on questions such as:
- What research results will society need in five, ten and thirty years?
- How can science best support future policy and decision-making?
- What might Danish agricultural landscapes look like in the decades ahead?
The session will conclude with a graphical summary of the day's discussions, followed by a poster session and networking opportunities with Land-CRAFT researchers.
